My passion for literature

2010-01-13

In 2008 I completed a short course in Contemporary British Fiction with the University of Oxford. http://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/online_and_distance_courses/index.html

In this unit I studied contemporary British novelists such as Kazuo Ishiguro, Ian McEwan, Zadie Smith and Hilary Mantel. I would later pick up the course ‘Fiction written by Victorian Women’ with the University of Oxford and compare the differences between 19th century British Fiction and 21st century British Fiction. In these units I was able to indulge in my hobby of reading and I was introduced to quite a wide range of writers. Perhaps you have also read some of these writers and would like to discuss these novels with me?

I also completed another unit in art appreciation where I learned about the outside influences on ‘Islamic Art and Architecture’. If you are interested in art and could teach me more about this fascinating area I would be very keen to hear from you!

At the moment I am currently studying a short course online with the writer Lisa Selvidge titled ‘Writing Lives’. In this unit I am learning to construct memoirs and general life writing short prose. I hope that this unit will help me with my current PhD thesis which deals with life writing, Autoethnography and feminism, which I am studying for, on campus, in Melbourne, Australia. The thesis grew from a desire I have always had to learn about my family’s past and particularly our relationship to Iran. In this thesis I am reading the memoirs of Iranian American women’s’ lives and I am connecting their stories with that of my own as an Iranian Australian woman.

My passion is for literature and I would very much like to hear from you whatever genre or writers you may be focusing on, if you are also interested in literature.
