Traveling to Nicaragua

2009-10-18

I traveled to Nicaragua for one month. I left Costa Rica and traveled north to the border and first stopped in San Juan del Sur. I traveled all the way from San Juan del Sur (near where it says, “San Carlos on the map below), Popoyo Beach, Granada, Managua (the capitol of Nicaragua), then to the Corn Islands.

The Corn Islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean. Do you see Corn Island on my plane ticket? I flew from Managua to Corn Island.

Really, there are two islands, Big and Little Corn. Little Corn is amazing! Cars are not permitted and the culture is similar to Afro-Caribbean cultures. People speak their indigenous language, English and Spanish.

This is me snorkeling in the beautiful coral reef around Little Corn Island:

Here are more snorkeling photos: This is a Nurse Shark. This one is about 5 feet long!

There are numerous different types of tropical fish living in this reef. The fish swim in large schools and eat the aquatic plants.

This is a Manna Ray. They look like a paper airplane when they swim.

If you are ever traveling in Central America, you should visit Nicaragua. There are great beaches and surfing, tropical islands, Spanish Colonial cities, and very friendly people.

If you could travel to any country, where would you go?
