A Picture of Me

This is what I look like. I actually like this sketch better than I do most photographs that are taken of me.

There’s an interesting story behind this portrait. One night I was downtown in Austin’s entertainment district. On a street corner, I saw a teenage couple embracing each other. A few feet away, a middle-aged man with a sketch pad and pen was drawing a picture of the couple.

I was curious, so I asked, “Do all of you know each other?” They said no; the man and the couple were strangers to each other. The man was a street artist. He had seen the couple and asked for permission to draw them.

When the artist finished the drawing, he tore it off the sketch pad and gave it to the couple. Then he started drawing me. When he finished, he gave me this portrait.
