Oxford Summer School

2011-08-15

I have just returned from my summer school stay at Oxford in England. There, for three weeks, I studied
*War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy
*A Pale View of Hills by Kazuo Ishiguro
*Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel
*Waterland by Graham Swift
*Master Georgie by Beryl Bainbridge

and some very fine poetry written by
*Seamus Heaney
*Sylvia Plath
*Phillip Larkin

My favourite book to study during my period of stay at the Rewley House in Oxford was War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy. Have you read this book?

It is a very long story, roughly 1,400 pages long and the story is set during the Napoleonic Wars. I think Tolstoy did a very fine job at recreating the events that took place in Russia and of creating a story that is both engaging as well as informative.
